Community Milling
Our Community Milling days are an opportunity for small growers who have 1 - 400 pounds of olives to contribute their olives to a truly local blend each harvest season. We mill Tuscan fruit in one batch and all other varieties in another. The amount of oil you receive is commensurate to the number of pounds you contribute.
Check back this fall for more info about our 2012 Community Milling dates!
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please bring your own oil containers (clearly marked with your name) unless you would like to purchase them from McEvoy Ranch. Plan on one gallon of oil from 80 pounds of fruit (slightly higher for riper fruit, lower for less-ripe fruit).
We will weigh your fruit on our certified scale when you arrive. Price per pound of fruit is $1. You will be charged when you pick up your oil.
Any fruit with an Olive Fruit Fly infection rate greater than 5% will be deemed unacceptable and will be refused.
We will not mill olives that are badly frost-damaged. If your fruit is deteriorating due to frost damage, it is not suitable for high-quality oil production. You may bring your olives on Community Mill Day for evaluation.
Of particular note are the restrictions due to the Light Brown Apple Moth and European Grapevine Moth. To help prevent the spread of these pernicious pests we have consented to an official compliance agreement with the County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office, the USDA and CDFA. All fruit that arrives for our Community Milling Days must be 100% free of leaves (stems ok).
All fruit brought to Community Milling Day (even if the amount exceeds 400 pounds) will be included in the Community Milling - we will not set aside and process any individual millings on those dates.
WEATHER ALERT: In the event of a severe storm we will postpone Community Milling Day. Light or moderately rainy conditions will not result in postponement. If severe storm conditions are predicted, we will email all registered participants on Friday morning to reschedule.
